James River State Park, Take Two

“Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts. There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature — the assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after winter.”  ― Rachel Carson

Sunset over the Tye

We made a second trip to James River State Park while on vacation. The Tye River Overlook was so pretty we wanted to catch it at sunset. It did not disappoint.

This time we walked the river and wetland trails, taking in the beauty of the wildflowers.

On our last visit, we enjoyed the river from the banks at the picnic area. This time we ventured onto the beach. The sound of lapping water and wind whistling through the trees drew a soothing solitary scene for us.

Someone before us had created stone art.

The wetlands, woods, and brush provide cover and food for the birds, bees, rabbits, and deer.

As always, we enjoyed our walk through nature and snapped a few shots here and there.

    Breathtaking, Suzi!

What a gorgeous selection of photographs. LOVE that one of the stone art.

“there is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature — the assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after winter.”

How true that is. Nature is a perfect example of the cycle of life.

Have a great Wednesday, my friend X

  2. Had to google and see in Virginia. Father and I contemplating move to Greensboro , NC after here in Miami most of my life. I want to live in America(if you know what I mean) not here will real scenery.

    • Carl ~

We lived in Winston-Salem for 8 years . . . right next door to Greensboro. The Piedmont is a lovely area ~ about 2 hours from the mountains and 6 hours from the beaches. Lots of history, art, and culture. And good restaurants. Enjoy your contemplation.

Williamsburg is another great spot for history, art, culture, and food.

      • Oh, thank you so much for that positive assessment. One apprehension: I must find oncologist, urologist, ophthalmologist and primary physician and even though I won the 9th grade geography award I get lost in a 10 room house. I have a son there so should be OK. Of course here in Miami I am 10 minutes from the beaches.

    • I did, too. There was some words written with stones as well but some stones were washed out, and as I filled in the blanks I didn’t think I’d take a pic and share those, lol!

  3. These are exquisite photos. The rock art is fascinating. I recently viewed rock art in Vancouver, while the artist who put it together monitored his work. It is definitely an undertaking that requires a passion that comes from within.

  4. So beautiful, Suzi, both what you photographed and what you wrote to accompany it! I especially love the image of the placid river, with its lapping water and whistling wind!
