Birds Of A Feather Lunch Together

Living in the Gap

January 21, 2012 – Birds on the lawn

Motionless and nose to the picture window, Wylie stared down the birds flitting from the neighbor’s yard to ours and back again. The Starlings, Grackle, and Red-winged Blackbirds pecked the ground, and fluttered about inching their way in and out. Each time I moved to the window they startled in a flush of feathers. As they lifted off the yellow lines of the  Red-wing Blackbirds would blend into a spread of vibrant red. They became flames in flight against a sky of ash.

  1. I’m surprised Wylie didn’t startle the birds, too. They can sure be a noisy mess of confusion when they startle and all fly off at once. (We don’t have the selection of birds you’ve mentioned, but we’ve seen this when the pigeons eating our grass seed make a hasty retreat.)

  2. Wonderful description, Suzi!

LOVE how you shared that. The visual is perfect!

Have a great Saturday, my friend!
