Lost In The Shuffle

Born of love

and a flicker of hope

was the American dream

They took it all

Stole it right from under our noses

Bundled it in a package

tied it with a pretty bow

and put it up for sale

They pared it and rewrote it

Sold it off as pork

to pad some fat cats’ pockets

and satisfy their sweet-tooths

Oh, it’s still for sale

For a small price

your freedoms and a bit of your soul

Now we search for hope

among the fine print

And we wonder

Where has love gone

This is my entry for One Shot Wednesday.

    You said it, dear lady!

    Excellent poem!

  2. now I have the song “where is the love?” in my head- the chorus would fit really well here.

Your poem rings true- it’s a sad state of affairs- from the beginning though- we might have been a country born of love, but stolen from others who were here first

  3. oh very nice suzicate….in all the red tape its hard to tell who is truthful anyway…i guess that is why they called it a dream…cause at some point we had to wake up…smiles. nice one shot.

  4. My favorite lines are: Now we search for hope/among the fine print.

This is a great image and sums up so much…the loss of hope, the desperation of people to find what is missing and not even knowing where to find it, the ridiculous products that are proffered to us promising hope, and all the fine print that claims exemptions and obfuscates the truth. All that, said so simply and cleanly! Well done!

  5. Wow! You are so talented, I forget your many facets — photography, prose, poetry. “bundled it in a package.” Very interesting images, well done!

But keep hope — America is alive and well and dreaming great things!!

    xoxo

Heartbreaking poem about illusive hope. Makes me wonder if hope even exists under that fine print. Also, such a beautiful painting for a prompt; it definitely inspired outstanding lines. Killer ending

Could we have this printed up in major newspapers?? We have lost our edge and sold our spirit.
Even the pork is fatty these days

    What a great One Shot
